6 Truck Stops Worth Visiting

August 10, 2012

Looking for something with a little more to offer than just your typical murky cup of joe and dingy restroom the next time you hit the road? These truck stops aren’t just your ordinary truck stops. Some even have tattoo parlors and wedding chapels. Check to see if any of these rest stops are on your next route.

1. Little America Truck Stop and Hotel
This rest stop has all of your typical amenities – gas, convenience store, garage services – but that’s not all. Nestled in the woods of Flagstaff Arizona, Little America is more like a mini resort. Here you’ll find a hotel, swimming pool and hot tub, a business center, fitness center, multiple restaurants, lounge, gift shop, banquet rooms and even wedding planning services.

2. Midway Travel Plaza
Located between Kansas City and St. Louis, Midway Travel Plaza could be considered a destination all on its own. With an antique mall, exposition center, family restaurant, lounge, convenient store, hotel, mini storage center, firework shop, tattoo parlor, haunted house, child care center, church and boot shop, you might mistake this place for a small town.

3. Clear Water Travel Plaza
Located in central Minnesota, this stop touts its conveniency for good reason. With a laundromat, CAT scale, fax and copy services, mail drop, FedEX & UPS drop stations, wireless internet, and TripPak scanning services, when you need to get something done, this is the place to do. They even offer free showers and discounts on meal purchases when you make a fuel purchase.

4. Jubitz Travel Center
With their hotel, restaurant, music lounge, and cinema on top of their trucker services (scale, truck wash, TripPak services, fuel) This place seems like a home away from home. You can also find shoe and boot repair services, a barber shop, chiropractic services, a post office, medical clinic, 24 hour laundromat, fitness center, and even a ministry. Jubitz Travel Center is located in Portland Oregon.

5. Alamo Travel Center
If sin city is a little too far out of the way from your route, Alamo Travel Center and Casino might be a good compromise. Located in Reno nevada, Alamo Travel Center’s amenities include showers, a restaurant, laundromat, hair salon and convenient store as well as a motel and casino.

6. Iowa 80 Truck Stop
Known as the world’s largest truck stop, the Iowa 80 Truck Stop has just about anything you could possibly need, and then some. Trucking amenities include barber shop, chiropractor, dentist, truck wash, dog wash (yes, dog wash), 24 hour road service and ASE certified mechanics, trucking accessories and show room, game room, fax and copy services, movie theater, church, custom embroidery, showers, and a restaurant as well as a handful of fast food joints. Iowa 80 is located in Walcott Iowa.
