Barrett Chicago Helps Local Students Discover America
Barrett's Chicago office brought geography, mathematics, and travel to the fifth grade classroom of Marie Dohnke at O'Plaine Elementary School in Gurnee, Illinois. Students met Driver Dave and were introduced to what life on the road is like for a professional van operator.
As the year progresses, Ms. Dohnke's class will get postcards from Driver Dave as he moves around the United States, loading and delivering shipments for our customers. Some of the postcards will require the students to figure out, from clues he provides, where in the United States Driver Dave is working. They will also receive other materials periodically, introducing mathematical and geographics concepts in a fun and entertaining way.

Nelson Celebrates 50 Years in the Moving Industry
Tom Nelson was joined by Barrett Moving & Storage and Boulevard Moving & Storage associates from the Kenosha and Gurnee area as he celebrated a half century in the moving industry. Organizers Jeff Zastoupil, George Follensbee, and Sue Follensbee managed to keep the event a secret from Nelson until he arrived at the Barrett/Otto Nelson offices. To his surprise, he found he wasn't going to the Milwaukee Brewers game with just a few family members and friends. Instead over 50 people and a tour-size bus were awaiting him in the parking lot. A good time was had by all - even though the Brewers lost.

BARRETT ACQUIRES FIVE STAR MOVING & STORAGE Barrett Acquires Mayflower Representation in Twin Cities Market
EDEN PRAIRIE, MN, May 30, 2006 – Barrett Moving & Storage announces today that they have acquired Five Star Moving & Storage, of Golden Valley, Minnesota, a Mayflower Transit agent. Through its Boulevard Mayflower brand, Barrett now has locations in Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Chicago and Kenosha, Wisconsin. Barrett and Boulevard represent more than a century each of experience in household goods relocations for corporate employees, families, and individuals; warehousing, logistics and inventory management, and specialized transportation services such as trade show and event transport, office and industrial relocations, and museum and artwork moving, and ground transport for the aerospace industry.
“The addition of this Minnesota location rounds out our strong Midwest base of Mayflower agencies,” said Randy Koepsell, President and CEO of Barrett Moving. “Boulevard is a well-established name in southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. With this acquisition, we bring the strength and familiarity of the Mayflower system to our Minnesota base.”
Both Boulevard and Barrett rose from modest beginnings, as family-owned businesses with strong commitments to their communities. Boulevard was launched in the Milwaukee area as a drayage firm. Barrett began life as a coal-hauling service in north Minneapolis.
“We look forward to the opportunity to bring Mayflower’s well-known service – with that familiar ship logo – to our Twin Cities area customers,” commented Bill Johnson, Vice President and General Manger. “Our goal is to combine the tradition of personalized service and strong operating practices of both organizations, for the benefit of our customers – present and future.”

ISO QUALITY WITH A MIDWEST FLAIR
Barrett employees in Kenosha, Milwaukee and Chicago were treated to some fun, some inspiration and a challenge at ISO Kick-off meetings early this month. The challenge: get involved in making a daily difference for our customers. How? By focusing all our efforts on quality. By participating in each location's quality initiatives, and by searching for ways to improve how we do what we do. The Gurnee office's Quality Kick-off is pictured at left.
Setting High Standards. "At Barrett, we've always had the attitude that we want to set the standard for the best in moving and storage," comments Dave Skokan, Milwaukee's Quality Team leader. "We're using our ISO certification process as a way to bring out everyone's best ideas for doing that."
Getting Everyone Involved. In Kenosha, at Barrett/Otto Nelson Roger Gename's Quality Team focused on getting everyone excited. "We're a close group here," Gename says. "So, we really understand how much difference each person makes in the overall picture. We've had tremendous enthusiasm for this chance to make quality a part of everything we do."
Setting Their Sights High. In Barrett's Chicago office, the Quality Team is focusing on productivity, with aggressive goals for improvement. "We're determined to be the leader," says General Manager George Follensbee. "We brought everyone in the office and the workforce together to get them involved in the whole process."
And, yes, doughnuts and coffee were served!

pig, some chickens and ducks) who are stranded because of the hurricane. They are being housed in a horse barn and arena at Louisiana State University. Large dogs are being housed in the horse barn, smaller dogs in crates in the arena, cats in a curved hallway around the outside the arena. There is a command center which is the main communication
area - complete with computer network system setup. There is also a
veterinary triage center for injured/sick animals to be evaluated and
treated. The critical animals are sent to the vet school for more
intensive care. Barrett's own Dave Skokan headed up a team of volunteers who loaded the truck, and Dave has volunteered to drive to Shreveport to deliver the supplies.
Barrett donated more than 500 cartons to KMSP-TV Fox 9 News' collection efforts during the Labor Day Weekend, and assisted students, parents, and faculty of the Minnetonka Minnesota Schools by transporting a full van load of much-needed items for Katrina refugees.
